It’s good to see J R Celski get in on the appearance money. Wednesday, March 3 from 5:30 – 7 pm J R appears at the new and incredible 24 Hour Fitness. The address is 571 East Lake Sammamish Parkeway. The basketball court has been setup to let people see his Bronze medal and share the moment with him. The first 100 members or guests can take one photo and have one item autographed. Pretty cool. They say arrive early – ha ha. How about arriving on Tuesday, after all the club is open 24 hours.
Hey if you don’t get to see J R, you will probably see one of our neighbors. I hardly go there without seeing at least one of them. The club is off to a booming start. I wonder if it is because the facility is so good, or if the demographics of Issaquah and Issaquah Highlands is so perfect for them.
You might want to take a look, free 7 day passes are abundant. It’s not in the Highlands but oh so close. Kathleen posted an article about 24 Hour Fitness a few days ago, click here.

Yep, that’s a real camel. The kids loved him, and so did we! Most of the time he was sitting down looking at or over the nativity scene and baby Jesus. For those of you who weren’t willing to go out in the cold weather you missed some great tacos and tamales from Agave, not to mention a nice Christmas Festival. Their food is tasty. There was live music, nativity tours, horse and buggy rides. You could take your kids to visit Santa, and hear a story from Mrs. Claus. It was awfully cold, so not to many sat in the chairs to listen to the music.
The cold nights make for clear sky. Some of the best views are on top of Issaquah Higlands. Many of the local homes are decorated with Christmas Lights. A good place to drive around with the family. It is a wonderful season. Merry Christmas. Larry And Kathleen Cragun.

Yes! My cup runneth over. First the hospital breaks ground and now we find out Regal Cinema is going to build a stadium type, 64,000 sq ft, 14 screen digital theatre. Even if you don’t like to go to the movies, if you own a home in Issaquah Highlands this certainly won’t hurt your property’s value. The cinema will be located at High Street and Park Drive, and 10th and Highlands Drive.

Winner of the Goat Picture Contest!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We would like to thank everyone who participated. Having the goats here was a hoot. Posting all your pictures was likewise. We met lots of people doing the same thing we were, as we were running around trying to find the goats and do a little goat watching.
The winning picture was selected by a large majority of our judges. They seemed to particularly like how the landscape with the houses was definitely identifiable as Issaquah Highlands.
We will be getting in touch with the winner to show them how to claim their prize. Congratulations!
Enter your best picture of the GOATS in Issaquah Highlands. ONLY SIX DAYS LEFT TO ENTER. WINNER GETS A FREE ZEEKS PIZZA! WINNER WILL BE ANNOUNCED ON THE 28TH. Send to kathleenlea_crag@hotmail.com . We will announce the winner on this blog.
Last night the goats were eating away behind the homes on 30th Ave NE. There is a lookout point between the houses at about the intersection of Harrison St and 30th Ave where you can get a look at them. They are fun to watch.

Goat Gets OUT!
This poor little goat got out of his pen last evening and couldn’t figure out how to get back in. He was very upset. The goat herder or shepard finally showed up to catch him so I hope there was a happy ending. The goats had a large tub of water but I noticed that it was not full enough for the littler goats to reach the water.

The cubs are just coming out for the public to see. It is not often we get a chance to watch tigers grow from 18 pounds to 400-500 pounds. Well, we in Issaquah have been lucky to have done this before but it is really rare for us to have another chance. These guys don’t even have names yet. Do you have any suggestions?

Bengal tiger cubs are brothers, at Cougar Mountain Zoo
The tigers love to romp and play, even with their stuffed tiger friend, as well as with each other. They are shown in the Magic Forest at 11:00 AM and 3:00PM most days the zoo is open.

One real tiger, one fake.
Chances to actually get to touch, hold and pet the tigers are a unique feature at the zoo. You haven’t lived until you have been able to pet a tiger! We know. The Zoo calls these Encounters.

Petting a tiger's tummy, a reality at Cougar Mountain Zoo!
For more info go to the Zoo’s Website www.cougarmountainzoo.org . The Zoo is just off of Newport Way in Issaquah, WA 98027 (19525 SE 54th).
If you are one of the many fortunate ones who got to know Renee Zimmerman like I have than you will find it just as difficult as I do to see her go as the Executive Director of IH Council! Decisions to eliminate her position were made due to the insufficient revenue stream that is needed to staff employees and IH Council members. The impact of delayed development and the economics that growth provides are vital to keeping any Community financially healthy and with delays in growth, cost cutting measures can come. As Executive Director, Renee knew the financial outgo and sees the budgets and she knew in her mind unless new financial streams were created that one day her day may come and unfortunately that day will be May 15th when Renee will be saying goodbye as Executive Director of IH Council!
Renee’s been extremely influential in the behind the scenes implementations of many of our IH Community activities. Her Community accomplishments have been many and her resources for this Community will be hard to replace! Imagine the hours of planning that goes on for Community events like Highlands Days, 4th of July, Easter and etc? Renee cares so much about this Community that here it is in mid April and on top of her daily agenda is the preparation for Highlands Day’s. She’s poured her heart and soul into this event and in her mind this is the event she’s the most proud of.
Prior to her involvement with the IH Council, Renee was the Project Manager for the DOT (Department of Transportation) on the makeover of US Hwy 2. She managed the project and became instrumental in its development. That particular project taught Renee on the resourcefulness it takes to manage Community conflicts and the importance of bringing people together. The goal of strategically improving the safety of one our State’s worst highways is something Renee will always be remembered for within those at the DOT and the representing Communities.
For me, Renee will always be remembered as a person who constantly has a smile on her face and as a person who cared about the well being of the Issaquah Highlands Community!
You’ll be missed Renee!

Issaquah Highland’s own Sherm’s BBQ Bistro and Catering was one of the restaurants that provided the food for the Harvest Dance, a benefit for the Issaquah Food Bank. Kim of Sherm’s put on quite a spread, Pork Spare Ribs in Paprika Sauce, Smoke Beef tidbits on a stick, Blue Cheese Potatoes, BBQ Chicken and Jambalya, Pulled Pork Canapes, Turkey & Cranberry Wraps. Hungry yet?!

Sherm's BBQ
Sherm’s is at 1927 15th Ave NE, across from Ashland Park. The restaurants who provided the food get a big hooray from me and I am sure all who attended the dance. Harvest Dance was a huge success at least for those who attended.
Other restaurants that participated were Amante’s Pizza and Pasta. Lombardi’s, Tiger Mountain Grill and Sweet Addition. The food had great variety (see below) and the turnout was superb. I don’t know how much the food bank benefited but by all appearances it should have been a success. I was busy eating and taking pictures but the beat got the best of me and soon Larry and I were dancing to the rhythm. Pickering Barn was jumpin, that night (not because of us)!
We even got a little of “These Boots are Made for Walkin’” later on in the evening. For a while almost, but not all, were concentrating on the food. But brave souls ventured out and soon the dance floor was full. It didn’t matter if you were young or old or if you could dance. everyone had fun.
There were so many seated at tables that there wasn’t that much space for dancing and you know how long the Pickering Barn is!

Later in the evening a auction began for many items that were also donated by individuals and businesses.
We couldn’t stay, if any of you did, comment on this article and let us know how it went.

In addition to Sherm’s here is a list of featured foods at the Harvest Dance.
Issaquah Food Bank is needing more donations and sponsers this year, especially for the Holidays. Can you help? See www.issaquahfoodbank.org.
