Going to the dentist is one of my least favorite things to do. It’s the drilling and the needles isn’t it? It starts in your childhood. My mother would have to dragged me screaming and yelling down the street. This won’t happen if you bring your kids to Highlands Kids Dentistry. They use lasers instead. I knew their must be a better way. Highlands Kids Dentistry recently opened in the Starpoint building in Issaquah Highlands…………..

If you are one of the many fortunate ones who got to know Renee Zimmerman like I have than you will find it just as difficult as I do to see her go as the Executive Director of IH Council! Decisions to eliminate her position were made due to the insufficient revenue stream that is needed to staff employees and IH Council members. The impact of delayed development and the economics that growth provides are vital to keeping any Community financially healthy and with delays in growth, cost cutting measures can come. As Executive Director, Renee knew the financial outgo and sees the budgets and she knew in her mind unless new financial streams were created that one day her day may come and unfortunately that day will be May 15th when Renee will be saying goodbye as Executive Director of IH Council!
Renee’s been extremely influential in the behind the scenes implementations of many of our IH Community activities. Her Community accomplishments have been many and her resources for this Community will be hard to replace! Imagine the hours of planning that goes on for Community events like Highlands Days, 4th of July, Easter and etc? Renee cares so much about this Community that here it is in mid April and on top of her daily agenda is the preparation for Highlands Day’s. She’s poured her heart and soul into this event and in her mind this is the event she’s the most proud of.
Prior to her involvement with the IH Council, Renee was the Project Manager for the DOT (Department of Transportation) on the makeover of US Hwy 2. She managed the project and became instrumental in its development. That particular project taught Renee on the resourcefulness it takes to manage Community conflicts and the importance of bringing people together. The goal of strategically improving the safety of one our State’s worst highways is something Renee will always be remembered for within those at the DOT and the representing Communities.
For me, Renee will always be remembered as a person who constantly has a smile on her face and as a person who cared about the well being of the Issaquah Highlands Community!
You’ll be missed Renee!

YWCA has long been involved in many of our community events with booths and literature about the Family Village of affordable housing that will be built in Issaquah Highlands. YWCA has had both one on one communications with residents of IH and also have articles in the Connections newspaper and recently held a meeting at Blakely Hall with answers to many people’s questions about what this community will be like.
At this meeting plans and drawings about the architecture, materials that will be used, and how the village would be integrated into the Highlands were presented. The designs and materials planned were attractive and well thought out. Many courtyards for children and outdoor enjoyment of all IH residents were part of the plan. Landscaping and style of the buildings, a committment to environmental and community values will make this a welcome additon to Issaquah Highlands. Questions like “Who will live here?” were answered and also invitations to learn more were welcome.

YWCA Family Village to be built at Issaquah Highlands
You can learn more by postings on the YWCA website www.ywcaworks.org or by contacting Linda Hall 206-490-4382 or lhall@ywcaworks.org . Linda is YWCA Senior Director of Housing Development and the key point of contact for all inquires. She will eventually live at the Village.
The site for the Village will be across from the Park and Ride on Highlands Drive. The south side will be on High Street.

There is a Map Your Neighborhood training meeting at the Issaquah Highlands Fire Station tommorrow night Jan 15th 6:30 – 8:30. This could be invaluable in the event of a disaster. We can all learn how to help ourselves and help our neighbors. If we know our neighbors and we each know the circumstances of each family ( i.e. children, babies, disabled, etc.) when disaster strikes we will have a better idea of what kind of help they may need OR you may need from your neighbors.

A neighborhood is defined as between 15 – 25 homes (or appartments). At the meeting you will receive a booklet of how to map your neighborhood and learn about key things needed for neighbors to be ready. Then you will learn the 9 steps to follow after a disaster.
It would be helpful to know who has CPR skills, firefighting skills, medical skills and who has things like chain saws, ropes, extra water, food, etc.
DO YOU KNOW WHERE AND HOW TO SHUT OFF YOUR GAS METER?
During our recent snow storm I witnessed many neighbors helping others from shoveling walks to giving rides to folks who weren’t able to get around in the type of cars they had. And more than a few people pushing out stuck cars. While this may not be a disaster it could be for some and the more we know each other and care about each other the better off we will all be, come rain or shine. You can’t get too many friends!
Our neighbors at GILMAN SQ did have a disaster (flood). We can help them with our patronage when they are back in business.

These photos Kathleen took made me think of one of the main things I like about living here. It is truly a beautiful place to live. We have awesome views. The home owners association for the highlands does a masterful job of landscaping and keeping it beautiful.

Two constant things about Issaquah Highlands are change and choice. The New Home Information Center has even changed locations. That is not new news to anyone who lives in the Highlands because you have to drive by the place it used to be as you come and go. The same great help and info are still available at 1101 NE High St. #103. You can’t miss the signs. And they still have popcorn and Judy, too.

There are big homes, small homes, condos, live-work spaces, homes with acreage, homes with small yards, high rise condos (sort of), townhomes, apartments, inexpensive homes and pricey homes. Contemporary homes, traditional homes, craftsman homes, homes with views, green homes, homes next to parks. The list goes on.

You can live in places like Huckleberry Circle, Vista Park, Brighton on Park, Wisteria Park, Starpoint, Dahlia Park, Harrison Street, Roanoke Woods, Chesapeake Landing, The Cottages, Ravena, West Highlands Park, Magnolia Park, Village Green. It is not by accident that many names have park in them because Issaquah Highlands is almost like living in a park, there are so many of them. Convenient amenities continue to arrive in the form of World Pies, Alice’s Beauty Salon, Le Chic Pet, Sip Restaurant, Marcelas, Highland Cleaners, Rice n Roll, Caffe Ladro, Curves, MK Ballet Studio, Nine Bar Espresso, Subway, Sorella’s and the High Street Mall is underway.

Many events and opportunities for fun are offered throughout the year, such as Highland Days, Easter Egg Hunt, Fall Festival and many more. This just touches on everything Issaquah Highlands has to offer. Come see for yourself.

Twenty homes have sold in this price range, half of the period being a seasonal December period. These statistics, unlike over 1 million in listing price do not indicate a buyers market on the whole.

Yesterday Kathleen and I spent some time with buyers who are moving in this week to Starpoint Condominiums. Before making their purchase they looked at over 60 condo projects. There must be a reason. How about 10?
Before I give you 10 reasons to buy in Starpoint: here is a link to an article Kathleen wrote yesterday and a link to an inside view of the model home.
1 – The quality of the interior and exterior construction.
2 – Most have incredible views.
3- The secure out of the weather underground parking.
4 – Close to Ashland Park, Central Park, and the mini soccer field.
5 – The soon to arrive main floor retail.
6 – The pleasant outdoor atrium with views and sitting areas.
7 – The secure entry and lock n leave possibilities.
8- Value in the pricing.
9- Still 22 units for good selection.
10- Elevator access.
And of course it is in Issaquah Highlands
In compliance with The Northwest MLS rules we have written permission from the listing agent to provide you this information. Both Kathleen and I are available to introduce you to this fine property.

Near the top of Issaquah Highlands and you are on Harrison Street. This interesting street of custom homes is seeing a lot of construction going on or recently finished. These buyers were serious, some with serious views.

And there are a couple of nice park areas to enjoy, one at each end of the street.

The requirements for Harrison Street are similar to Grand Ridge Drive.
