24 Hour Fitness A Hit With Issaquah, Even Issaquah Highlands – And now it gets J R Celski

Posted by Larry Cragun No Comments »

olympics

It’s good to see J R Celski get in on the appearance money. Wednesday, March 3 from 5:30 – 7 pm J R appears at the new and incredible 24 Hour Fitness. The address is 571 East Lake Sammamish Parkeway. The basketball court has been setup to let people see his Bronze medal and share the moment with him. The first 100 members or guests can take one photo and have one item autographed. Pretty cool. They say arrive early – ha ha. How about arriving on Tuesday, after all the club is open 24 hours.

Hey if you don’t get to see J R, you will probably see one of our neighbors. I hardly go there without seeing at least one of them. The club is off to a booming start. I wonder if it is because the facility is so good, or if the demographics of Issaquah and Issaquah Highlands is so perfect for them.

You might want to take a look, free 7 day passes are abundant. It’s not in the Highlands but oh so close. Kathleen posted an article about 24 Hour Fitness a few days ago, click here.

Advice For Those Moving To Issaquah Highlands

Posted by Larry Cragun No Comments »

Issaquah is divided into two areas, the Highlands and the Lowlands. The lowlands are made up of neighborhoods like South Cove, Mirromont, Downtown, olde town, Tibbetts Creek, etc. Some of the highlands face west or are deep in the trees and miss the afternoon sun: Montreux, Talus, Squak Mountain.

But the Issaquah Highlands residents have a different problem, “the sun”. High above the clouds and basking in the warm afternoon sun, the highland folks have to deal with 365 days of sun. Even those rare snow days create Utah like sun ray reflections that they must be prepared for.

We encourage  highlands residents to shop the new Issaquah Highlands Central Market that has plenty of Ponds Extract in stock. It will protect your skin and make your life here in the highlands a better one.

Kids at the Cougar Mountain Zoo Reindeer Festival: 12/23/2009

Bark Park

I wanted to summarize a couple of my favorite Issaquah things to do. Some you can and should do right away.

1. Visit the Cougar Mountain Zoo Reindeer Festival. Kathleen writes about it in a fun way on Issaquah Undressed: Click here.

2. Take time to go to the top of Harrison Street for an evening view. It is awe inspiring. I do it often.

3. Help the local economy, make sure you patronize local merchants.

4. Pray for our public servants. Can you tell how concerned the police officers that serve us are. Can you feel their committment to serve even when dangerous?

5. Now I know you need to bundle up a little for this one, but Issaquah has great parks. It even has a bark park and a tiny dog bark park. I notice that the tiny dogs use the big dog park. Oh well for a novel idea. Take in one of our great parks for a walk in the park.

6. Click here for a very nice Merry Christmas card I received from Kathleen.

Are These The Paragliders That Landed In The Highlands?

Posted by Larry Cragun No Comments »

You may not have seen it, but it was cool. Three paragliders landing on the park at the beginning of Harrison Street. This video gives me the willies.

One of the interesting attractions of Issaquah is watching the paragliders on a clear summer day. Many of us can see them in the distance from our homes. It was unusual the day they landed at Harrison Street.

I hear several of our neighbors have actually made the jump from Poo Poo Point. Kathleen is anxious to try it. And, me, I am not even anxious to watch her. Actually thinking about it makes me anxious.

I encourage you to visit Kathleens You Tube account. She has a new Flip camera she is making good use of. Most about Issaquah. Here is a link to her account: http://www.youtube.com/user/kathleencragun

She also posted a few about Salmon Days here: http://issaquah.neighborhoodsundressed.com/

Oh Joy, A 14 Screen Digital Cinema Is Coming to IH

Posted by Kathleen Cragun 2 Comments »

Yes! My cup runneth over. First the hospital breaks ground and now we find out Regal Cinema is going to build a stadium type, 64,000 sq ft, 14 screen digital theatre. Even if you don’t like to go to the movies, if you own a home in Issaquah Highlands this certainly won’t hurt your property’s value. The cinema will be located at High Street and Park Drive, and 10th and Highlands Drive.

Winner of the Goat Picture Contest!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Winner of the Goat Picture Contest!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We would like to thank everyone who participated. Having the goats here was a hoot. Posting all your pictures was likewise. We met lots of people doing the same thing we were, as we were running around trying to find the goats and do a little goat watching.

The winning picture was selected by a large majority of our judges. They seemed to particularly like how the landscape with the houses was definitely identifiable as Issaquah Highlands.

We will be getting  in touch with the winner to show them how to claim their prize. Congratulations!

NEW Tiger Cubs at the Zoo! In Issaquah, WA 98027

Posted by Kathleen Cragun No Comments »

The cubs are just coming out for the public to see. It is not often we get a chance to watch tigers grow from 18 pounds to 400-500 pounds. Well, we in Issaquah have been lucky to have done this before but it is really rare for us to have another chance. These guys don’t even have names yet. Do you have any suggestions?

The tigers love to romp and play, even with their stuffed tiger friend, as well as with each other. They are shown in the Magic Forest at 11:00 AM and 3:00PM most days the zoo is open.

One real tiger, one fake.

Chances to actually get to touch, hold and pet the tigers are a unique feature at the zoo. You haven’t lived until you have been able to pet a tiger!  We know. The Zoo calls these Encounters.

Is there any way we can “Keep Renee”?

Posted by Issaquah Highlands Undressed No Comments »

If you are one of the many fortunate ones who got to know Renee Zimmerman like I have than you will find it just as difficult as I do to see her go as the Executive Director of IH Council!  Decisions to eliminate her position were made due to the insufficient revenue stream that is needed to staff employees and IH Council members. The impact of delayed development and the economics that growth provides are vital to keeping any Community financially healthy and with delays in growth, cost cutting measures can come.  As Executive Director, Renee knew the financial outgo and sees the budgets and she knew in her mind unless new financial streams were created that one day her day may come and unfortunately that day will be May 15th when Renee will be saying goodbye as Executive Director of IH Council!

Renee’s been extremely influential in the behind the scenes implementations of many of our IH Community activities. Her Community accomplishments have been many and her resources for this Community will be hard to replace!  Imagine the hours of planning that goes on for Community events like Highlands Days, 4th of July, Easter and etc?  Renee cares so much about this Community that here it is in mid April and on top of her daily agenda is the preparation for Highlands Day’s. She’s poured her heart and soul into this event and in her mind this is the event she’s the most proud of.

Prior to her involvement with the IH Council, Renee was the Project Manager for the DOT (Department of Transportation) on the makeover of US Hwy 2.  She managed the project and became instrumental in its development. That particular project taught Renee on the resourcefulness it takes to manage Community conflicts and the importance of bringing people together.  The goal of strategically improving the safety of one our State’s worst highways is something Renee will always be remembered for within those at the DOT and the representing Communities.

For me, Renee will always be remembered as a person who constantly has a smile on her face and as a person who cared about the well being of the Issaquah Highlands Community!

You’ll be missed Renee!

A Green Halloween in IH

Posted by Kathleen Cragun 1 Comment »

Halloween is a big deal for Issaquah Highlands. There were events and fun for everyone. I didn’t go to the Boo Bash Teen Dance. I did’nt think they would let me in (I’m a little over the age limit)! I heard the sounds of kids having fun. I didn’t go to the Haunted House either (too scary)! But, I heard the blood curdling shreeks and screams, so I know they had a GOOD time.

What I did do was: Watch the delight of kids as they streaked throught the maze AND

Charity and Levi don’t know they are about to be attacked by a giant spider!

Fun stripes are sprayed into willing kids hair by Jill Jensen of SportClips Salon.

Pony rides, of course, for those too young to enjoy being scared out of their wits!

A Pumpkin Carving Contest…….and Renee announces the winners.

Happy Halloween…………………………………..IH did it a little early.
