Winner of the Goat Picture Contest!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Winner of the Goat Picture Contest!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We would like to thank everyone who participated. Having the goats here was a hoot. Posting all your pictures was likewise. We met lots of people doing the same thing we were, as we were running around trying to find the goats and do a little goat watching.

The winning picture was selected by a large majority of our judges. They seemed to particularly like how the landscape with the houses was definitely identifiable as Issaquah Highlands.

We will be getting  in touch with the winner to show them how to claim their prize. Congratulations!

Goat Gets OUT!

Goat Gets OUT!

This poor little goat got out of his pen last evening and couldn’t figure out how to get back in. He was very upset. The goat herder or shepard finally showed up to catch him so I hope there was a happy ending. The goats had a large tub of water but I noticed that it was not full enough for the littler goats to reach the water.

NEW Tiger Cubs at the Zoo! In Issaquah, WA 98027

Posted by Kathleen Cragun No Comments »

The cubs are just coming out for the public to see. It is not often we get a chance to watch tigers grow from 18 pounds to 400-500 pounds. Well, we in Issaquah have been lucky to have done this before but it is really rare for us to have another chance. These guys don’t even have names yet. Do you have any suggestions?

The tigers love to romp and play, even with their stuffed tiger friend, as well as with each other. They are shown in the Magic Forest at 11:00 AM and 3:00PM most days the zoo is open.

One real tiger, one fake.

Chances to actually get to touch, hold and pet the tigers are a unique feature at the zoo. You haven’t lived until you have been able to pet a tiger!  We know. The Zoo calls these Encounters.

Slow Down And Get Me A Goat Photo

Posted by Larry Cragun 1 Comment »

Hey, just for fun, let us post your Issaquah Highlands Goat, goat photo: Submit to LarrykCragun@(at)yahoo.com and we will come up with a prize for the best goat photo. Lar

Road Construction on NE Park Drive
Construction scheduled to begin on NE Park Drive, between the fire station and Huckleberry Circle. Work is scheduled begin Monday, July 6th and will continue on and off through the next few months. During this time there will be no parking along NE Park Drive. We appreciate the community’s patience and caution while traveling though the construction zone.

And as you slow down – watch out, even take a snapsot of the goats.

The Goats are Almost Here!
The first of two herds of goats is scheduled to arrive July 6. The second herd of Nature’s original weed eaters should arrive a few days later and begin the large task of chomping down weeds in several of the community’s open spaces. See your July edition of Connections for vantage points and more information. The 400 goats will be enclosed with portable electric fencing so be sure to keep away from the fences.

Are You Smarter Than A Zoo Bird?

Posted by Kathleen Cragun No Comments »

If you are curious, bring your kids and find out at the Bird Show held at the Wildlife Theater at the Cougar Moutain Zoo. It is every Saturday and Sunday at 1:30 pm. It is about 25 minutes long and is a real HOOT! Parden the pun!

A Really Big Bird at the ZOO?

A Really Big Bird at the ZOO? NOPE!

Lisa Land coaches a stage frightened bird?

Bird climbs to the top, is that a bribe Lisas got?

Kiwi, a Scarlet Macaw, climbs to the top, is that a bribe Lisa's got?

Milo races to the top so face hes a blur

Milo races to the top so fast, he's a blur, he beat Kiwi's time by a huge margin.

Milo is a very pretty bird and he knows it!

Milo is a very pretty and smart bird and he knows it!

Milo is a Rainbow Lorikeet, not a macaw. He is new at the zoo. If you wind up his tail he hops like a wallaby! Hilarious demo of this trick is part of the show.

Bird cleans up after the show and then..........................

Manduvi, a Hyacinth Macaw cleans up after the show and then..........................

...he takes donations!

Did you know that the yellow part on Manduvi is skin, the blue parts are feathers? Macaws live a long time 60-80 years, and are very intelligent, having an equivalent personality of a 3 year old human. Are they good pets? Lisa said “Do you want a three year old around the house for eighty years?”

After you have seen the Bird Show, there is more………………………………

Alpaca is a little embarressed he didnt get to comb his hair before photos!

Biff isn't a bit embarressed he didn't get to comb his hair before photos!

Lulu, my what big ears you have!

Leeloo, my what big ears you have!

Leeloo is a mule deer and is nine months old. She will stay small at about 120-150 pounds.

Then of course there are the Bengal Tigers, Almos and Taj. They will each celebrate their second birthday soon,  parties are planned. We will keep you posted! Love those Tigers!

Family Pet Expo

Could anyone resist a face like these? I hope they found a home!

Lana Solnick, a rep from Veterinary Resource Group, Inc. had lots of free healthly food samples for dogs and cats. I always like the samples. My cats are finicky eaters and I hate to buy a big bag that they will not eat.

There were many other interesting booths as well. Le Chic Pet often sponsors groups that have pets for adoption.

Kids Fall In Love With The Cougar Mountain Zoo Birds And Animals

Posted by Larry Cragun No Comments »

There is an important lesson our grandkids taught their parents about attending the zoo. Below is a list of the ten worlds of the Cougar Mountain Zoological Park. Take a look and I will tell you more.

Now to the story. The last Mini-Lecture above was one of our grandchildrens favorites. Talk about up front and close. These little (or should I saw large) Macaws are so close they can pick your glasses off your face. Take it from me, watch out, for when you aren’t looking you are vulnerable to the fast grasp of the Macaw.

Now for the rest of the story. The pressure is on. The grandchildren liked the Macaw. A neighbor is moving and has a big white one to part with, for free. Momma doesn’t want the big white one. The kids loved the big white one. Who is going to win the battle of “Oh Please” vs “I don’t want that silly bird”. I am betting on the grandkids.

Actually, I think our grandkids took the best option, wanting the Macaw. The youngest one liked the Tigers the best.

A note on the Tigers. The Zoo called me yesterday. Taj and Almos’ are coming up to their one year birthday. There is a gala birthday party for the little big guys in May. They now weigh over 200 pounds. Have you seem them lately? Me neither. Time to get the camera out. Lar
