Tough Times Hit World Pies

Posted by Kathleen Cragun

I noticed the sign on the window. It was big, yellow and said, “Thank you Snook’s”.  I decided to see what it was about and was very sad and dismayed to see that it was a farewell message from many of the people who patronized the pizza place and the 9 Bar Espresso, to the Snook’s, who are the World Pies owners. World Pies and 9 Bar and Espresso are closed!!!????

If you read our review about them when they first opened, you know we were very excited to have them in our neighborhood. And even more so after trying their creative pizzas. The Snook’s left a note on the door that very graciously, and sadly left this message.    To Matt & Sue Snook, We will miss you, too. We wish you better times and success in the future. I live just up the street from here, and will miss having a cafe so close.

My realtor is a also a small retail business owner, and she looked into opeing a store here in IH, and it sounded like there other issues with regard to doing business in IH (as far as property managment and business type agreemenbts are concerned), I have a feeling/hunch that may have posed a challenge to Matt before his place even opened.

When I first seriously thought about moving to IH, Starpoint and Manchester Court were just beginnning to take shape, and I was really incented by the idea that there would be a local pub, just on the corner– needless to say I was disaapointeed when we finally did move to MC to learn that the pub wasn’t going to happen. Then it was empty for a long time, and finally Matt’s operation were announced, but with a (in my opinion) convoluted business structure– a Pizza Retaurant and a Coffee shop.

We were there last Saturday, and everything seemed fine. I noticed for the first time that they had a Clover, and was looking forward to trying a cup this weekend– Regardless, I will miss Matt’s enthusiam and welcomeness, and hope to see his return elsewhere in IH when the econmoy picks up again.

    =) Scott
